Walter C. Howard, 79, of Rt. 2, Veedersburg, died at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, IL. He was born in Hillsboro on March 18, 1891, a son of John and Malinda Jean Stephens Howard. He was married to Mamie Hoover on Dec. 22, 1917. A life resident of the Fountain County area, he was the last of a family of eight children. Surviving besides the widow are two daughters, Mrs. Ura Brett and Mrs. Emogene Kenny of Crawfordsville; five sons, Orris of Mt. Vernon, Ronnie of Covington and Othel, Velmar and Gordon J. of Veedersburg; 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Coopers Chapel with Rev. Thomas Stapp officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may pay respects at Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in Covington this afternoon and evening. -- tch
